Corning Incorporated
Headquarters Expansion

Corning Incorporated creates leading edge technologies for the fast growing segments of the world's economy. Sullivan Park is their premier research and development center located on 1000 acres in Erwin, NY. It was an honor to be chosen the construction manager for the complete replacement of their underground high voltage network. We met the challenge of an extremely tight schedule and the requirement to tie in all the existing substations without any power disruption to Corning's processes or critical experiments. Through careful planning and customer communications, the project was completed on time and without any disruptions to the research facility.

Services performed:

  • Dual-ended, outdoor 12.5 KV receiving station and tie breaker installed, including four sets of 500 MCM, 15 KV, copper conductors encased n ductbank from utility substation 2000 feet away
  • More than 50 15 KV feeder cable and a 120 volt battery back-up system installed, including construction of a 24'x32'x8' concrete vault to house them
  • More than 3000 feet of ductbank, manholes, and conductors installed to feed the 14 existing indoor substations
  • Cable splicing and termination
  • High potential testing
  • Computerized monitoring network installed for centralized reporting
  • Construction of a paved access road
